The coaches were really proud of their boys!!! A great end to Day 2!Įxcitement, tradition and warmth are everywhere here at Camp Towanda with over 50 Guest Alumni Judgies swarming and feeling nostalgic! It’s amazing that no matter how long it’s been since they were a camper or counselor, just being here makes them feeling like it was just yesterday!!! Having them here helps make Olympics that much better!Īt the end of the 2nd day, the BLUE CLONES are ahead of the RED ZOMBIES by just 13 points and consider that 2200 points have been awarded this far. Everyone gave it their all, cheered with pride and celebrated with some milk and cookies!Īfter Tug of War last night, the National boys basketball game went into OT!!! Fast-paced, evenly matched, well-fought. Tug of War was under an incredible sky on Skyview, under the lights. We had an abridged service, the Red Zombies and Blue Clones did some entertaining skits and everyone got ready to PULL THAT ROPE! To see our 8 year old Debs with our 15 year old Dorm girls…it just reminds us how far these girls and all our campers have come. The Girls rocked the fields in kickball, basketball, newcombe, Ghost (of course), soccer, gaga and softball.Īs our last Friday evening at camp, we continued the tradition where the Dorm and Deb girls light the candles and welcome us to our Shabbat dinner. Everyone competed, tried their very best and congratulated their friends in the next lane. Kick-board and kayak races, freestyle relays and the All-Star Race. The water was a little cool, but that just made the boys swim faster. In the afternoon, the boys headed to the waterfront for their swim meet. The Grand Master reported some games were down 2-0 in best of 5 to come back to win!!ĭuring rest hour, tennis, soccer, co-ed CIT Ghost were played, while the Senior/Club/LIT boys collected wood for tonight’s rope burning (the Club boys have been practicing with their coaches–it should be an incredible event tonight… you’ll have to check it out on the Skyview Camp Cam!). While they ran the track, the boys competed in basketball, soccer, team handball, softball, football and GHOST. From the marathon to the potato shuffle to the 4 1/2 relay, those girls ran their hearts out (with the Generals, CCs, Lieutenants and Sergeants running along side them for EVERY RACE). From the creative athletic apparel (did you know you can play soccer in a tutu?) to the chants and cheers, Olympics is very much HERE!įor those of you who may have tuned into the Camp Cam for your daily weather check, we had a nice weather day (with a few spots of rain). Intense spirit, effort and pride everywhere. If the POV is from a character to whom the language is gibberish, you'd want to reproduce it as heard, or even just allude to it as unintelligible (speech you don't understand is terribly hard to remember, compared to speech that makes sense to you).Olympics 2013 is off to an incredible start. If the POV character understands the language as a "second" tongue, you might supply a basic translation - perhaps one character summarizing for another. If you're writing from POV of a native speaker of the chant's tongue, I'd write it in English - because the speaker will understand it without effort or thought. However: whether to write something as substantial as a chant in its original, and whether to translate it immediately (as opposed to, say, in an appendix) ought to depend more on what character's POV you're writing in. Tolkien did it as a hobby, because by profession he was a philologist - he studied the structure and evolution of real languages, and taught the same subject at a university. His way still works very well, and doesn't really require you have a complete language as background - unless you have enough examples for too-complete fans to decide you've been inconsistent, there's really no need for it. For instance, lembas, elvish waybread - the explanation of what it was accompanied warning Pippin that, in one bite, he'd eaten enough of what he thought was ordinary cram, what we'd call hardtack, to support a long, hard day's march. In several places he used an elvish word, then explained (character to character) what he meant. When necessary, he supplied a translation into English (couched as translating into the "common speech" for one of the hobbits, usually). Tolkien wrote a number of important things in their "original" fictional language - the language of Mordor for the inscription inside the One Ring, the language of the elves for quotations from their history and poetry, in a few places he even used the language of the dwarves.

And which produced accurate results the most frequently? Read on to find out.ĪBBYY can recognize 25 languages. With them, we scanned a variety of nine business cards: some with minimalist designs, some with more elaborate designs, and some with languages on them other than English (German, Simplified Chinese, and Spanish). They are among the most downloaded and highly rated in the Google Play Store and Apple App Store. We tested four business card scanning apps with versions for both Android and iOS. Nevertheless, you should snap photos of the business cards in a well-lit setting. The camera tool in many of these apps automatically enhances the image of a scanned business card (e.g., brightening it and straightening its alignment) to help produce better scan results through its OCR. How often you have to make corrections on the scanned results from any of these apps depends partly on how capable its OCR software is.Īnother factor affecting the results is image quality. At least occasionally, you’ll need to make edits, such as correcting the spelling of a business or a person’s name. It’s impossible for these apps to produce perfect results every time. And many allow you to export the data as a vCard email attachment, to a CSV file, or even to CRM platforms like Salesforce, though you may have to pay for a premium account to do so. Īdditionally, these apps typically offer cloud storage (either their own or via a third-party service like iCloud or Google Drive) so you can access the contact data from anywhere. These results can be added to your phone’s contacts app with a quick tap. Some apps’ OCR software can even recognize languages other than English - a plus for today’s global business environment. The app performs optical character recognition (OCR) on the photo to extract the information printed on the card and categorizes that info into fields (name, job title, phone number, email address, etc.). Using such an app, you snap a photo of a business card with your phone’s camera. Why not let a business card scanning app can do the work for you? But if you’re like many business professionals, you lack the time or motivation to type the information on them into your contacts. Give it a shot!Īs aforementioned, you cannot perform a Sonic Drift if you're holding down the B Button for this. If you follow the ring paths in this stage by using Quick Steps, you'll be able to collect every one of them and avoid all the enemies, without exception. It's performed by holding down the Wii Remote's B Button, and tapping the Nunchuk's Analog Stick toward the left or the right. To skillfully evade enemies, you can use the Quick Step. From a standstill, holding down Z will make Sonic get on his hands and knees, and you can crawl through the narrow space instead. If you reach an area where you're supposed to Slide in-game and you miss, you don't have to backtrack and try again. When you're getting close, tap the Z Button on the Nunchuk to slip through the opening. There'll be times where you're rapidly approaching a wall that's too tall to leap over, and too low to run beneath, and that's where the Slide comes in. The fifth tutorial teaches you how to use Slides. To complete this mission, run up to a collection of enemies and shake your Wii Remote rapidly to activate it. This is the tool you'll abuse when you're racing for S Rankings, so you'll want to collect as many rings as possible! The Sonic Boost is great for blasting down straightaways, hitting your top speed on dash ramps, and plowing through straight lines of foes. That won't be reset till you've lost a life or complete a stage. As you gather more rings, your Sonic Boost meter levels up, giving you more segments to fill. Initially, it has three segments, and if you've filled up at least one of them, you'll be able to perform this maneuver. Whenever you collect rings, you build up the Boost Gauge in the lower left area of the screen. Once that's happened, a simple flick of the remote will make an airborne Sonic bop them.įollowing that, you'll be told about the Sonic Boost. In homage to the Secret Rings system, you'll see a red target surrounding the foe you've locked onto. Your third objective is to use the Homing Attack, which you'll recognize if you've played any of the Hedgehog's recent games. Note that you cannot do the Sonic Drift if you're holding down the B Button-you must be tilting the Analog Stick forward to run instead. That feeds directly into your Sonic Boost, which you'll learn about shortly. If you've done it correctly, you'll see sparks flying from beneath Sonic's feet, and if you exit the maneuver smoothly, you'll earn a Drift Bonus. Whenever you're taking a corner, hold down the Z Button on the Nunchuk. Following that, you'll perform a Sonic Drift, which is slightly more complicated. You'll start with Jumping, which uses the A Button on the Wii Remote. With its collection of tutorial-like events, Windmill Isle is your introduction to Unleashed's daytime play. Lotrafilcon A contact lenses were chosen as they represent a leading extended wear silicone hydrogel material while the lens care solutions chosen were the most commonly used at the time of the study. These species were selected as they are common causative agents of contact-lens associated inflammation and infection. Two Gram-negative ( Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Serratia marcescens) and one Gram-positive ( Staphylococcus aureus) bacteria were evaluated. Additionally, they assessed the antimicrobial activities of contact lens care solutions against bacterial cells grown under planktonic or biofilm conditions. Szczotka-Flynn and colleagues used a bacterial biofilm contact lens model to determine whether three different bacterial strains, commonly associated with contact lens keratitis and inflammation, can form biofilm on silicone hydrogel contact lenses. Increased resistance of contact lens-related bacterial biofilms to antimicrobial activity of soft contact lens care solutions. The following is a review of an article that determines the efficacy of contact lens solutions against three types of bacterial biofilm. Current testing involves demonstrating efficacy against planktonic or single-cells microbes, while efficacy against biofilms is not required. However, recent outbreaks of atypical microbial keratitis have sparked a rethink in terms of how solutions are tested before they become commercially-available. Before a solution is released onto the market, certain criteria need to be met in terms of their ability to kill these pathogens. Solutions contain antimicrobial agents, which kill various pathogens including Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria. One of the major functions of a contact lens care solution is to disinfect contact lenses to make them safe to wear. I really like this since I love doing solo runs and comparing my scores to other players. Outside of story progression and challenges, doing runs is all about bragging right on top of the leaderboards. The runs themselves can be performed solo or up to a group of four. They have weak damage and I feel like I’ve wasted a bullet shooting an already frozen enemy. Electric weapons are nice but rely on magazines. They all do damage over time which is good since the enemies are corporate bots and I WANT THEM TO BURN! Anyways, electricity stuns enemies and zaps nearby enemies, freeze weapons… eventually freezes enemies. The Magma gun series is my personal favorite, this line of guns does not run on limiting magazines, it goes by a heating system similar to that of Apex Legend’s L-Star LMG. Instead, they lean more towards elemental types. The game has both your typical range of gun types but it focuses less on mundane things like different fire rates and damage numbers. Killing enemies and damaging bosses individually changes both Ults and you can choose when to use the one or the other by pressing R1 or L1 and firing to confirm your choice. With enough levels, you can also have your choice of Gauntlet Ultimates from a current selection of a dozen or so. In each run, you can have your choice of any 3 weapons. What the environments lacked in variety, is certainly made up for by the weapons in the game. Plus, there isn’t exactly a lot of variety when it comes to environments. You are only allowed take on one challenge at a time. The leaders will choose the challenges you need to do on that run. Think of it like streaming a demo and you’re trying to get the word out that this is the game to play. To recruit the leaders and add their members to the growing tally of the game’s active users, the player needs to plug in and enter Arcadegeddon and show off the game. But there’s a catch, no self-respecting punk will listen to someone who doesn’t walk the walk. It doesn’t make a lot of sense but it gives us a reason to present ourselves to the gang leaders (all of whom appear to be chilling out in this one arcade, btw.) and recruit them to the cause. So, having skipped the competition, we head straight to the part where we recruit all of the city’s gamer gangs in an effort to “disrupt” corporate activity within the game. Guess uncle Gilly should have set up a competition for the rights over his technology. This all sounds a lot like Ready Player One. And then your classic evil mega-corporation (AKA FunFUNco) walks in and tries to perform a hostile takeover of Gilly’s. Your character’s uncle, Gilly, created a new arcade game that has the potential of being the next big thing in all of gaming. The game itself is a parody of every that’s been popular within the last 5 years. There are many games that poke fun at corporations and the parody that is “the game developer” but I don’t usually see a game that goes so as to go against the grain of the thing it is making fun of and actually produce a product that doesn’t expect you pour in dozens of hours in the name of “progression”, at least that’s what I’m experiencing with Arcadegeddon. You would think I'm lying and I don't blame you!īut I honestly don't like to gossip when the person or event being talked about can't defend themselves - or help themselves - I think this explains why I play devil's advocate, to assuage my guilt for when I do participate in talking shit sessions.īut I feel like if I don't gossip I am left out - in both the work place and my personal life - I'll say this I do a much better job of not doing it at work than in my personal life- But that's only cause I feel I would have more to gain if I didn't gossip at work- muahahaha (I dunno why but that sentences needed a maniacal laugh)Īnd that's all I pondered about the whole week to gossip or not to gossip - while also working on my assignment of turning my negatives into positives - and then.ĪND then.“Wanna go for a walk? It’s very nice out.” But even then I left unsatisfied with our resolution. So Sylvie and I decided that Gossip = Juicy info and Venting is when things are problematic/issues in my life. I really do try my best! I tell my self that I really want to be positive! That I won't participate in negative feelings/thoughts/words BUT then I find myself justifying it by saying the line is blurred between gossip vs venting. Right!!? I have been reading this book for work called "7 Habits of Highly Effective People" and it's awesome! It forces you to take a look at yourself! It talks about these principles to live by and the one that I have the hardest time with is being positive - I mean the name of my blog is Happiness is Way Overrated. Justification.Anyone.Īnd at this dinner I found myself complaining, complaining, and complaining. So Sylvie gave me an assignment to turn the negatives into positives and soon after that found ourselves also talking a lot of shit! I mean who doesn't enjoy a good session of talking shit! Simply put! Some of these folks are Dodo-Heads!Nothing wrong with that if people are willing to grow and learn. So, this last summer I interviewed for a front line staff position - (did tremendously well in my interview - toot-toot: someone in the interview literally said out loud "man, you're good" within 2 1/2months I got promoted) That interview slip should have been a clue as to the level of professionalism I would be working for and with - (I know! I'm hating on a compliment about me but in interviews its against HR for comments like that and this organization with its magnitude should be more PC than it is) Now for the back-back story - As I mentioned in an earlier post (as if I have hundreds)- about a year ago I was in a very dark(x10) place - I gave myself a year to recover before I re-entered the work force - more specifically before I went back to working for/with kids - (You cannot work for/with children unless you're ready to put your game face on because most kids, no matter the age, can read bullshit/character half a mile away) Here is the back story, last Sunday I met with my friend, +Sylvie Roussel that I hadn't seen in over a month (thanks to her for tracking me down) And obviously there was a lot to catch up on! It has been busy busy - when I wrote Post #1 It had been the first weekend in months that I had nothing to do - (add that on to the numerous reasons why I started this blog) Now! I am the kinda person when I hear someone say "How are you doin?" and someone responds "cant complain" I think to myself "Oh, I bet you I can" Hence the title of post #3 And now I'm trying to channel that person and eureka! Found the anger! Grrr. Ok - my state of mind when I came up with this blog entry, I was pissed off and irritated but today, after a whole day of Disney movies and lounging I have had a hard time getting started (I have also been planning our next Disneyland trip this weekendand it needs to be perfect since it's my x-mas gift for my parents and niece) This is my GAD and OCD at its best! Disorders my ass. OCR is never perfect, especially if you’re dealing with scans with unusual layouts in magazines or books. In my tests, Prizmo’s Cloud OCR service was surprisingly fast too. Although the service requires you to upload your documents, the advantage is it’s more accurate than on-device OCR. With version 5, Prizmo now offers an optional paid Cloud OCR service too, which uploads your scans for processing and returns the OCRed text. The first is entirely on-device, which was available in earlier versions of the app and is an excellent option if you have confidential documents that you are uncomfortable uploading to a server for processing. I don’t need my scanned documents to look perfect to be useful references for the future, but a little flattening and contrast adjustment goes a long way in making the most of my other favorite feature of Prizmo, which is OCR that is available in over 20 languages. Prizmo can OCR a scan on-device, or using its optional Cloud OCR subscription service. However, your documents are not available from a separate Prizmo file provider. If you turn on iCloud support, Prizmo saves the PDFs and other documents you create in their own Prizmo folder in iCloud Drive. I’ve found this to be the fastest way to deal with multiple pages. Alternatively, you can use version 5’s new ‘Autoshoot’ feature, which is a mode that automatically takes a picture of each page you place in view of your iOS device’s camera as soon as it detects the page and you’re holding the camera still. When you’re finished, tap the ‘Done’ button, and each of the images you saved will be part of the same multi-page document. After tapping the ‘Keep Scan’ button when you’re satisfied with the image you’ve captured, you can point your camera at another piece of paper and and tap the shutter button to scan it. With Prizmo, if you have a multi-page document to scan, you have two options. It’s not a horribly complicated procedure, but it does fail, and pointing my iPhone’s camera at a page and tapping a button is undeniably easier. Then, I need to make sure my pages aren’t stuck together, bent too much, or crooked in the paper feeder, all of which could jam the scanner or feed multiple pages through at one time. I need to open it up, unfold, and set the paper feeder for the paper size I want to scan and unfold the tray that collects scanned pages. In contrast, when I use my ScanSnap, the process is more involved. These are largely under-the-hood and workflow design changes, but they manage to simplify the scanning process by reducing the number of steps and adjustments necessary to create a good scan. Nor were those versions able to automatically rotate images based on machine learning. Previous versions of Prizmo could detect pages and suggest cropping, but they didn’t do so as well as version 5 in my experience or automatically as part of the capture workflow. Prizmo can also import images of documents from your Photos library and detect the page’s orientation using machine learning to auto-rotate the image.īoth the scanning process and the machine learning-based approach to auto-rotation are new to version 5 of Prizmo. The final step, if you’ve got no other pages to scan, is to tap ‘Done’ and save your scan. Tap the shutter button to take a photo of the page, and Prizmo opens a preview of the image where you can make adjustments to the page detection and rotate the image. When you point an iOS device’s camera at a page, Prizmo detects its edges, highlighting the entire sheet in blue. Prizmo, which has been around longer than Go, can convert document images to text too, but it’s also a full-featured scanning app.Ĭreaceed has been refining the scanning process for years, and with version 5 of Prizmo, it has reduced scanning to just three steps. Prizmo Go, which we’ve covered before, quickly captures text from images of documents that you can use in other apps. There are lots of terrific apps on iOS to capture and organize scans, but Prizmo by Creaceed, which I’ve been testing for the past week, has quickly become one of my favorites, distinguishing itself with its ease of capture and terrific OCR functionality.Ĭreaceed makes two similarly-named apps that share some common features. Important bits of paper still come into my life now and then, but I’ve found that an iOS scanning app is more convenient for the volume of scanning I do now. If I need to look at an old credit card statement or bill, I can log into those accounts to find the information I need, so I tossed my scanner in a drawer. However, I realized recently that not only do I rarely need to refer back to those scanned documents, but most are already available in electronic form online. I’d OCR the scans, so they would be text searchable, and I used Hazel rules to organize them in folders automatically. I used to scan paper documents and store them on my Mac. I own a ScanSnap S1300i scanner, but I’m not sure why anymore. |
